📝 Dev Diary #2 - Collection Improvements (New Abilities & more)

Future Update

Hey Coaches,

In this second Developer Diary, we are happy to share a preview of the various “Quality of Life” improvements and balancing changes we are currently preparing for future updates!

Before we go on - friendly reminder that our 🎃 Spooky Art Contest has been extended and simplified so everyone can participate! Check it out here!

Please keep in mind that everything presented below is work-in-progress content and visuals: Anything might be modified before the full release!

New Abilities, Hall of Fame Improvements

Yes, new Abilities are coming! We’ll soon be expanding the Hall of Fame for the first time with 4 new Frames that will grant you “Final Dash” Abilities, boosting your Champ at the very end of a Race! We have more plans to expand the Abilities system but we’re not quite ready to talk about future upgrades yet! 😉

Pictured above: Some of the various Frame concepts imagined by our Art team.

We’re also hoping to address some of your feedback about the Hall of Fame, specifically about aspects that could be somewhat confusing, raising questions such as “How to unlock Abilities?”, “When do they activate?” or  “How to find required Shapes?”.

We intend to make things much more simple and obvious, starting with the addition of an icon that appears above your Champ whenever an Ability is in use during a Race! (More visual effects too! ✨)

Lastly, to help you easily identify what you should collect first, we’ll add a visible “Hall of Fame” button to any Shape, Gadget or Moji that contributes to a Frame and also rework the way some Collection items can be obtained so you’re never stuck waiting without knowing how to make progress!

Collection Categories, Tokens and Tooltips

We loved adding so many Shapes, Gadgets and Mojis throughout 2023, but we believe the Collection Menu is starting to get a bit crowded... Good news: We’re dealing with it!

Everything in your Collection will soon be separated into categories based on where you can find them: Tournament prizes, Trophy Road unlocks, Coach Mission rewards, etc.

We hope this will make it easier for you to track your overall progress and what items you can find next with completion stats for each category, as shown below!

Collection Awards are also getting some love! We'll start by clearly displaying how many Tokens you can earn for each Shape, Moji and Gadget you find or upgrade, helping you know what to collect first. You can also expect reward requirements to be adjusted, new rewards to be added, and your total owned Tokens to be much more simple to track!

Lastly, we’ll be adding useful hints everywhere! For every item or icon you see in-game, we want you to be able to tap on it to bring up tooltips, displaying information such as how to obtain an item or which rewards a Chest might give.

More Races, more Rewarding Events!

We hope to make pretty significant changes to various aspects of our Events such as better balancing of Power required and more chances of unlocking unique content like Shapes through the cycle of Special Events.

To address some feedback we’ve seen, one major change we are working on is making sure you can never receive a duplicate Shape or Moji - for completionists who always unlock it all, there should always be alternative rewards to aim for!

Lastly, we are cooking up various new Race layouts that are sure to spice things up for everyone and encourage the use of some Gadgets that are very rarely picked - our goal here and for all our future updates is to make sure all the various Gadgets have great opportunities to shine!

Look forward to these changes, and more!

As always, a Dev Diary can only cover a small part of our future plans but you can look forward to much more detailed news this November and December as we reveal various patch notes of improvements!

See you soon in a future Dev Diary, and good luck on the race tracks!
